The following instructions are included with each guide lug kit but are reprinted here for your
reference..
Installation Instructions:
Support the track.
For best results, it
is recommended that the track be
removed from the tractor. The track
should be supported such that the
location of the lug that is being
replaced is laying on a flat surface.
Prepare the Surface.
The track
surface must be smooth, level, and
uniform in order for the new lug to be
installed properly. Trim any loose or
remaining guide lug material and buff
smooth the area to the same level as
the surrounding carcass.
Drill or “open” the bolt holes.
Use
the guide lug and retainer plate as a
template to locate and start the holes.
It is recommended to use a good
quality ½” cobalt or titanium bit to
make the holes in the track carcass.
Operate the drill at a very slow speed
–opening a channel not drilling
through the cables. When the main
cables are contacted, push firmly and
work the bit between 2 of the cables
while “bumping” the trigger.
Drive Bolt through Carcass.
Assemble bolts and retaining plate
and insert into the new guide lug.
Position the guide lug assembly
over the holes. Using an air
wrench, press firmly downward as
you thread the bolts through the
carcass. The bolts will pull right
through and the guide will snug up
to the track.
Install/Tighten Washer/Nut.
As
the bolts will be protruding through
the carcass, the washer and nut
can be easily started. In some
cases, you may need to trim the
treadbar around the bolt position in
order to have a flat surface to seat
the washer and nut. Tighten the
bolt until the washer is
compressed 1/8” into the track
carcass.
